Cast your minds back to early this year, you might recall that Front Mission 1st and Front Mission 2 remakes were confirmed during the Nintendo Direct presentation in February. Now, publisher Forever Entertainment has showcased more footage for both titles and confirmed that, yes, a third remake is also on the way.

Front Mission 2 originally launched exclusively in Japan back in 1997 and was well received by fans and critics alike. It's launch on Switch will be the first instance it will be officially available for audiences in the west. Both Front Mission 1st and Front Mission 2 will feature new and improved visuals whilst staying faithful to the classic turn-based tactical combat that fans know and love.

As a reminder, Front Mission 1st will launch on Switch this coming November, while Front Mission 2 is due some time in 2023. Front Mission 3, meanwhile, is due... uh, at some point.

Are you going to checking out these Front Mission remakes? Grab your mech and let us know!

I wish I had two more thumbs so I can give my anticipation for these games...four thumbs down, lol. I'm just not interested since they're being developed by Forever Entertainment.

I kinda wish they kept the sprite work in fm1, it had a really nice anime cinematic especially in the arena. I’ll buy them all but the 3d is a bit lacking in the first one for me.

Tbh just give me a fm1 rerelease I’ll make due lol

i've played Front Mission Evolved, but i've never played the main games before. I'll definitely check them out. they look cool, and very promising. (also, i've never played a TRPG at all. so this will be the first.)

This was probably the biggest reveal of the direct for me. I loved FM3 back in the day, and spent many many hours with it. Now the opportunity to play 1 and 2? Yes!

@Magician What's wrong with "Forever Entertainment"? I tried google searching but I cannot find anything wrong with the company. I never played any of their games either, so maybe they just make really bad games?

@HeroEightBit No, I wouldn't say their games are bad, they're just...thoroughly average at best. Have you played Panzer Dragoon remake or House of the Dead remake?

Front Mission 3 is an awesome game. I'm actually really excited it's being remade.

Any news on potential physical copies? I haven’t seen it heard anything personally, just curious if anyone else has 😊

Love these back on the Super Famicom and PS1, can't wait to play these games now in remake form.

@Magician I have not played either, but I have played the original Panzer Dragoon. But that is unfortunate to hear about how they handle remakes.

@Strictlystyles the DS remake of FM1 isn't too hard to come buy, and not super pricey.

I'm curious about these games. Front Mission 3 was the most highly-regarded, if I remember correctly, so I'm glad that's coming eventually.

@LiquidNinja check Play-Asia—there’s a physical for 1 on there.
Their page yesterday showed Front Mission was sold out/not available. Today I checked on a whim and unlike yesterday, it now says coming soon and should ship October 1st or something like that.
Keep an eye on it! I’ll be racing you to the Buy Now button 😂

It was the highlight of the direct for me. I haven't played them yet, but as a fan of mecha & srpgs I'm really looking forward to playing these classics day one.

@ChromaticDracula May the best man win! There will probably be some announced on limited print sites over the coming weeks. Either way, I’m glad they’re taking this series seriously again and psyched to play it again 😊

I'm kind of on the fence graphically. but cant wait for the remakes anyway. even though I finished the first one a few times (DS etc)
big fan of the series front mission 5 is one of my favs. 3 was great too.

@Beaucine They are S-RPGS up until 5 on the ps2. Basically your units are customizable, you can buy parts etc. you are restricted by weight as well. but its not crazy customizable like say Armored core. You can also limit enemy unit attacks by destroying arms, legs etc. and the enemy can do the same.
I know in the later games you can eject an enemy pilot and kill them and at the end of battle you can keep the unit. the tough part was to keep them intact to get the full unit. 😀

I only ever played Front Mission 3 on the PSX back in the day. Excellent storyline, tons of customization, and cool (for the time) battle cinematics. Unfortunately SquareEnix took a page from Sega (Shining Force and eventually Valkyria Chronicles Azure) and bastardized the PS3 iteration as an "action" game with Front Mission: Evolved; the resulting lack of interest killed the franchise up until now.

Opportunities to vote with one's wallet to save a deserving IP that somehow gets a new lease on life don't come around often (just ask any fan of Shining Force, Skies of Arcadia, or most any classic Sega IP not named "Sonic"). I definitely plan to support all three of these as they are released, and hope that others will as well.
